An essay film concerning an intertribal massacre in 1834, one year prior to the founding of Melbourne, between Boonwurrung and Gunai/Kurnai tribal groups in what is now Landcox Park, Brighton. This event was common knowledge in early Melbourne and came to define the fate of the Boonwurrung community, who following this tragic event referred to the area of contemporary Brighton as worrowen (lit. 'place of sorrow/incessant weeping'). An uncertain meditation on the complexity of history and the richness of Aboriginal heritage in Melbourne. Conceived and shot during Melbourne lockdown within the 5km limit.
Reverence and respect to Boonwurrung ancestors and elders, past, present and emerging.
