An essay film on the Great Fire of Smyrna of 1922 and associated genocide of the Anatolian Greek community. A meditation on cosmopolitanism, the erasure of history and the nature of violent ethnonationalism which, of all ideological trends, came to define life and death in the 20th century. A montage of historical testimonial, vernacular photography and street scenes shot on location in Izmir, Turkey.
